Week Two Reflection

Standards are a controversial topic in any realm.  I think that as a rule people don’t like being monitored and feel like they have no security in their positions when there is a “checklist” being used.  Unlike the CCSS, the standards we looked at this week are not used as a tool to measure effectiveness of instruction but rather to provide guidance for implementing technology in the classroom.  They break down some essential skills for students and help teachers to understand what their goals for using technology should include.

Being a fan of technology and using it as often as possible I often have to stop and evaluate whether my decisions are really right for my students.  My goal in every lesson is to make it as engaging as possible for my students and sometimes I have to reign in my excitement.  There can be a big difference between engaging and over stimulating.

My other thoughts on the standards is that they are a nice idea but most teachers are lacking the technological “comfort” that is needed to ensure that their students are learning the 21st Century skills they need.
